<Genesis 1: 26-28>
There is no doubt that the core of creation
is humanity. God 's creation reaches its peak when he creates the first man and
the first woman. The Bible gives more explanation to describe the creation of
man than all other creatures.
In Genesis 1:26, there is a significant
change in God's creation process. Whenever God created something, He simply
spoke, but it became existence.
“Then God said, "Let us make man in
our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the
birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the
creatures that move along the ground."
You find this word for the first time after
God spoke in verse 26: "Our image."
At this time, personal pronouns first
appeared in the scriptures. Between God and the first human, a personal
relationship was established that did not exist in the other objects of
creation. Unlike light, water, day, night, sun, moon, stars, and even animals
and the relationship with God, God created a first human and had a personal
relationship with him. God introduced himself for the first time with personal
pronouns of "us". He says "let us create." Rather than
"let me create."
Who is "we"? It tells us that it
is very important for God to worship. It is a clear explanation of the Trinity.
God created us in relationships and created us for relationships.
God has always existed in relation. So when
God created the first human, he immediately said that it is not good for this
human to be alone. God is the God of the relationship. So we, who are created
according to his image, resemble Him and make a personal relationship with Him.
Genesis 2: 7 shows us a very detailed
picture of how God created the first human being. “The LORD God formed the man
from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life,
and the man became a living being.”
This is the only moment of all creation in
which God directly used his hands. Everything that existed to this point was
made by His Word. But God used his own hands to create man. So human beings are
special. The fact that man is a special being can only be found in relation to
God. The most important reason you are on this planet is that you have a
relationship with God.
God created us and never left us alone.
Verse 26 tells it specifically. “Then God said, "Let us make man in our
image, in our likeness.”
We are told four times that we are created
in the image of God. It is the only event that makes mankind different from all
other creatures. This gives mankind a unique identity.
This is why God creates
and cares for people. This is why God used his hands. We are created in his
image, unlike any other creation.
The word image was originally a word for
sculpt. God carved us into God-like beings. In other words, God carved himself
in us and reminded us every time he saw us. This is a unique event that can not
be seen in any creature in the universe.
Heaven can proclaim the glory of God. The
moon, stars, and planets can represent God's greatness. Mountains and the sea
reveal the beauty of God. But man is the only one that reflects God's image.
What does this image of God represent? It
certainly does not refer to our bodies. God's image is not about biology or
physiology. Animals have their own bodies, but they are not created in the
image of God. What does this image represent? It certainly does not refer to
our bodies. God's image is not about biology or physiology. Animals have their
own bodies, but they are not created in the image of God. This image of God
certainly has a deeper meaning than skin and bones.
We are told four times that God has created
us in His image. God wants us to know that we are different from anything else
He has created.
So how are we different? We differ
mentally, morally, and spiritually in three ways. No creation in the universe
was created as a mind to know God, a heart to love God, or a will to obey God.
Only humans can have a relationship with God, and God has a personal
relationship with humans. Plants also have bodies. Animals also have body and
soul. But only human beings have body, soul and spirit. The biggest difference
between these beings is spirit.
John 4: 24 says: "God is spirit, and
his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."
Every human being has three parts: body,
soul and spirit. There is a physical life in our bodies. We experience an
emotional life with our souls. And we can live a spiritual life with the soul
of the image of God.
We have been created with spiritual
antennas. Animals do not have that antenna. So animals cannot know God, love
God, or fear God. Animals have no morality. Animal does not judge what is right
and what is wrong before acting.
It is because the image of God is engraved
on us that we feel guilty, think right, act right, speak right, and act
righteous.
So every human on this planet is special.
Everyone has infinitely divine value whether he is not yet born or is already
born, whether he is healthy or ill, he is lawful or not, whether he is just a
citizen or a criminal. So every human being is a reflection or should be a
reflection of the image of God.
God has placed us here on earth so that we
can live without doing anything. But he did not create us as unemployed. He
created us as the master of the earth. Nothing is more boring than not doing
anything in the world. However, human beings were originally created as being
related to God. Humans can never be bored at any moment.
The human life is a
life of sharing the relationship with God and is excited at any moment. Humans have been excited about their lives
since they first started as God-related beings.
See Genesis 2:15. "The LORD
God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work and take care of
it."
It depicts a general job description of the
human that God had hoped for in the first place. We had to manage and take care
of this creature. We have an obligation to tend and keep to this.
Let's look at 1:28. “God blessed them and
said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and
subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over
every living creature that moves on the ground."
What we have just read is an explanation of
human existence. First we pay attention to "be fruitful and increase in
number". We have a job to develop the social world in which we live.
Everything we do is entrusted to us by God, building families, churches,
schools, cities, government, and making laws. That is why God left us in this
world.
Then we are told "fill the earth and
subdue it". This is the way we learn and develop from the natural world.
We have come here to research, discover, innovate and invent various
technologies and diverse lifestyles from the riches God has given us. From the
beginning we have all been placed in God's research and development department.
Everything we research and develop in our
world, planting crops, building bridges, designing computers, composing music,
inventing light bulbs – all are a part of the cultural mandate that God gave us
in the beginning as we create culture and build civilizations.
What we do in this world is more than
putting food on the table.
What you do is the divine calling of
creation entrusted to us by God. One of the ways to serve God who created you
is by using the gifts God has given you to make the world you live in better
and more productive and to make it work for others.
We use wood to build houses, cotton to make
clothes, and silicon to make computer chips. All these things have been
obtained from the land that God has given us. Even our own lives, which we are
building for ourselves, are the tasks God has entrusted to us. So we must do
these things for His glory and honor. And we must illuminate His image in our
lives. In the image of God we have been created with holy designs. It was
designed as a purposeful plan to all of life.
Do not miss the fact that we are to reproduce
ourselves. Therefore, we must not lose sight of the image of God at any moment.
From the beginning, God had a plan of
"marriage" in human life. God had a plan to reproduce life in a way
called "procreation." God did it for a divine design.
Even today, science follows the plan of
creation. According to genetic research, a pair of human chromosomes labeled X
and Y determine the sex of our children. All males have X and Y chromosomes and
all females have only a pair of X chromosomes. From a purely biological point
of view, it is the Y chromosome that determines man. If a child inherits the X
chromosome from father, the child will become a woman. And if it is a Y
chromosome, it will be a male. The father's seed determines the gender of the
child.
It is the Y chromosome that determines
masculinity from a purely biological point of view. If a child inherits the X
chromosome from his father, it will be female. If it is a Y chromosome, it will
become a male. The father's seed determines the gender of the child.
Therefore, genetically, it is possible to
make a femail from a male, but scientifically it is impossible to extract the
male genetic code from a female because the female does not have the Y chromosome.
So, even today, when children are conceived, we are following God's plan to
increase in number from the beginning.
And now there is one last reason why we
remain on this earth. In Genesis 1:28, you may have noticed the
missed moment. "God blessed them."
The word "blessing" has more
significance than saying that God shakes hands with them and says, "I
bless you." Literally speaking, God has made them very happy as soon as
they are created.
God created the first couple to be happy.
From the moment of creation Adam and Eve were the most blessed couple in
history. Do you know why? Because they have a perfect relationship with God in
a perfect environment.
At that point, what did Adam and Eve do to
receive God's blessings? The answer is absolutely nothing! It was all due to
grace. From the moment Adam and Eve released their first breath, they were
recipients of God's grace.
There was a perfect peace for them. There
was perfect happiness. There was complete satisfaction and joy. Everything came
from a perfect God.
Now look again and see the world we live in
today. Every day we see a world tainted by weeds, pests, bacteria, viruses,
murders, rape, war, hatred, and violence.
At this point we should ask, "What
happened?" This is the second part of the story. I'm going to talk about
this next.
Today's lesson is this. - There is a hole
in your spirit that only God who created you can fill. The reason why the
Creator came to earth and lived as a man and died and was raised from the dead
was to fill the hole with grace, forgiveness, and love.
As soon as you believe that you are not
only created in the image of God, but that the Creator Christ wants to restore
your personal relationship with you, you will see the amazing fact that the
purpose of God's creation is through every moment you will.
